Published: 15 Jul 2026, 03:58 PM | Year: 2026
July 15, 2026 - As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration with higher education institutions, Prof. Dato’ Ts. Ir. Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim bin Abdul Mutalib, President of the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT), paid a courtesy visit to Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), where he was received by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Hata Rasit.
The MBOT delegation was also accompanied by Chairman of TTAC, Dato' Ts. Ir. Dr. Badhrulhisham bin Abdul Aziz, Director of TTAS, Ts. Dr. Nor Aznan bin Mohd Nor, and Deputy Registrar, Dr. Suaathi a/p Kaliannan.
The engagement provided a valuable platform for MBOT and UNIMAS to exchange perspectives and explore strategic opportunities to advance technology and technical education, while strengthening institutional collaboration in support of Malaysia’s growing technology ecosystem.
Discussions focused on identifying potential areas of collaboration, including the development of innovative programmes, strengthening industry-academia linkages, and enhancing academic offerings to ensure they remain aligned with emerging technologies, industry expectations, and future workforce demands.
During the discussion, MBOT outlined new initiative which is Conversion Bachelor’s Degree Programmes in Computing and IT related programmes to Seoul Accord Recognition, aimed at providing greater opportunities for programmes that have yet to obtain MBOT accreditation and Seoul Accord recognition. The initiative is aligned with MBOT’s policy that, effective from 2027, only graduates of MBOT-accredited programmes recognised under the Seoul Accord will be eligible to register as Graduate Technologists and Professional Technologists (Ts.) in the fields of Information and Communication Technology (IT), Cyber Security Technology (CS), and Creative and Multimedia Technology (AM).
The courtesy visit concluded with both MBOT and UNIMAS reaffirming their shared commitment to fostering a future-ready technology ecosystem, driving innovation through strategic collaboration, and developing highly competent technology professionals to support the nation’s sustainable growth.
